Domaine Anne et François Gros

(Vosne-Romanée)

Domaine Anne et François Gros

Anne Gros is a young, very friendly vintner who owns famous climates in the heart of the Côte. With her we sampled the 1999 wines from the barrel in a relatively new, vast and very clean cellar. Anne Gros' wines are relatively wood-orientated, without interfering with the good qualities of the wines. For the Grand Crus 80% of new wood are used, 50% for the Premier Crus and Villages and about 25% for the Bourgogne. There is no clarifying, filtering is done with just some diatomaceous earth.

Barrel samples:

Bourgogne 1999
Fine cherry red. Good fruit, wood and cherry. Warm finish. A good Bourgogne.

Chambolle-Musigny 1999
Good colour, very fine, open fragrance. Bitter cacao and vanilla. In the mouth very fine tannin, dark cherries, tobacco. Can be enjoyed soon, best with about six or seven years.

Vosne-Romanée 1999
Dark, still some light violet tones. Elderberry, blackcurrant. In the mouth spices, fine tannin, tobacco, blackberry jam and relatively high wood. A very good elegant and full-bodied Village.

Clos-Vougeout 1999
From a climate directly beneath Grands Echezeaux. Light blackberry red. Spices and wood. In the mouth vanilla from the wood, mature tannin, pepper, blackcurrant, chocolate and touches of venison, Terroir and leather. Long finish, a full-bodied wine.

Richebourg 1999
Dark blackberry red, not quite clear yet. Still closed. A very complex aroma. In the mouth fullness, tannin, wood, full dark fruit, spices, chocolate and tobacco. Very pure, very elegant, very powerful. A grand sumptuous wine.
