Domaine Georges Roumier

(Chambolle-Musigny)

This time Georges Roumier who is one of our favourite vinter for years didn't have too much time because he had to work on the new vintage. But we could degust the 2000 from the wood. One has to be happy having such good wine in the cellar. They count to those that make the Burgundy famous and unforgettable.
The 1999 is regarded to be - last year there still was a bit of scepticism - excellent and compares it with the '90. Though the vintage of 2000 is not an exceptional one, you can compare it with the '97, but tasted from the wood we found it balanced and with a good fruit. Definitely one has to wait with one's opinion till it is bottled. But it should develop nicely and should be consumable soon, but at the same time a fine wine.
With the vintage of 2001 Roumier is quite pleased. During harvest they had rain only for half a day and no hail at all. The latter fact was responsible for a lot of damage in the Côte de Beaune on the 4th of August.

Domaine Georges Roumier - Cellar

Chambolle-Musigny 2000
Good colour. In the fragrance dark tones. In the mouth soft fruit with fine tannins. Elderberry and some wood.

Morey-St-Denis 1er Cru Clos de la Bussière 2000
Blackberry colour. In the nose dark cherry and spice. In the mouth more closed, fine sweetness and some pepper.

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras 2000
Slightly darker. In the nose spicy and dark fruit. In the mouth very good sweetness, slightly hot and good fruit reminding of plums. Very fine.

Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureusses 2000
Even a bit darker. In the fragrance more closed, dark fruit. In the taste very dark and deep. Very good complex fruit with forest berries and not yet enclosed wood tones. Superb!

Bonnes-Mares 2000
The darkest one, but with slight violet tones. In the nose more power. Black currant. In the mouth very good sweetness, deep blackberry-fruit. The wood is still very present. Good structure and balance. Of course the mightiest of the tasted wines, but it is still differentiated and fine.

From the wood the 2000 were much more open and easier to degust than last year the 1999. Probably because of the fruit. The 99's might develop in a better way and are going to become really great wines. But you don't have to worry about the 2000 - they are going to be fine Chambolles.
