Eucaliptus
(Bolgheri)
The wine estate of Eucaliptus is named after the eucalyptus trees growing on it. Like so often, wine is not the only product in Bolgheri. Besides their own olive oil, fruit and vegetable is offered directly during shop opening times in the mornings and afternoons. One can spend ones holiday on the wine estate - some apartments are available.
Eucaliptus produces white and red wines. They are sold directly at the estate. I didn't see them in the local wine shops. They seem to be rather traditional and rather low-priced for Bolgheri standards. They surely aren't suitable for years of storage and are no match to the famous first class products of other producers. Doubtlessly here the wine is closer to food than to status symbols. But those looking for a couple of boxes of unpretentious Bolgheri to go along with dinner without putting it in the spotlight, have come to the right place.

Clarice igt 2006
Trebiano and Vermentino.
Bright yellow. In the mouth beeswax and mineral note. In the mouth fresh with some honey, citric and mineral. Light sherry tone. Simple good white from Bolgheri.
red
Palida Bolgheri Rosso 2006
70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Sangiovese.
In the fragrance red and black currant, spicy, light powder tones. In the mouth also red and black currants, accentuated acidity with pleasant bitter notes. Very young. Worthwhile keeping it for another two or three years. Good, basic Bolgheri without too much design and show-off. And also one example which doesn't lack acidity.
Named after the first syllables of the family members: father Pasqualino, mother Lisa, son Dario.
Clarice 2005
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Sangiovese.
Plum-like with rather soft acidity. A bit of tobacco, chocolate and a slight resinous component.
On the label the nice kitschy portrait of a young woman - the painting is in family possession.
